Fall Festivities

This year was fun having my own little one to drag around to all of the fall festivities! Irelyn loves hanging out with her cousins, and the Country Farm Fest was no exception!

For Halloween our sweet little Irelyn was an adorable Mermaid, with her little side kick, Toby the Lobster. She wasn't quite sure what to think of him!! 

It certainly is a lot funner to dress up your own little one for Halloween! I had such a fun time making her costume! She, on the other hand, did not really love wearing it!

 She had to dress up two days in  row because she has this super cute witch headband!

Our fall was such a blast, it made me so excited for Irelyn's first Christmas!!

I love having a reason to be crafty!!!

So, since I found out the babe was a girl I have been so excited to work on a few projects I had stashed away in my internet bookmarks for the day that I had a girl! I was also excited to finally be able to make my baby some of the cute things I had made for others! I have been having so much fun with being crafty for the babe, but realize maybe I'm going to have to start buying more practical stuff soon instead of craft supplies...I'm pretty sure they won't let her leave the hospital without a car seat! :)

First project was some Baby Legs!! This was one of the projects I was most excited for because these things are so expensive at the store! I figured if I could make them myself, I could have any color I wanted for a fraction of the cost of what I could buy them for! I used THIS tutorial, and socks that I found at Target for $2/pair. It took me less than 30 minutes to make all 4 pairs, and it only cost $8 plus tax! I think they turned out so cute, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to make a dozen more!

 

 

Second project is the first of many of these I'm sure, because these are the easiest little blankets ever! I've made these for most of the baby showers I've gone to in the past 2 years, and couldn't wait to make one for the babe! During a trip to JoAnn's yesterday for another project, I came across this adorable birdie flannel! Since I am currently in a birdie/owl phase, I knew I HAD to have it!! I think it turned out so cute!!!

Last project is another little sneak peak into the Nursery! It's not as close to being blog worthy as I thought because I keep having new ideas and changing my mind about things :) I came across THIS project on another craft blog, and knew at once that I wanted to make them for the nursery!! They were another one of those things that I couldn't see spending so much money on when I could just make them myself! They were so easy, and turned out so cute!!

 

So, to answer some questions I'm guessing this will raise, yes I think we have chosen a name, or I at least hope so or I will have to start over on this project :) I am, however, not quite ready to share, because I want to make sure I am 100% sure when she finally comes!!

Lastly, I wanted to share my new favorite site... Pintrest.com! It is an invitation only site, but I requested to join, and got an invite within a week or so!! It is such an awesome place to store all of your ideas and projects, and to find new ones that other people are working on! I've started transferring my some 100+ bookmarks off my browser to this site, and it makes it so much easier to find them! Go check it out!

More sewing

So, since I don't have much else going on in my life lately, I have been sewing quite a bit. At the request of my mother, I'm posting a little about my latest projects.

I was so excited when I found out my cousin was going to have a baby, because I knew I had to make his little girl a cute rag quilt, and a flannel receiving blanket. This rag quilt was so easy compared to the other I have made, but I think it turned out so much cuter! I just loved the colors!


My cousin Neil is a huge Utes fan so I made him this cute Utes blanket. Since it was a little to boyish we bought the cutest girly red & black outfit with a hat and bow so that when she's wrapped up in this everyone knows she's still all girl!


We went up to the baby shower today, and brought Cierra and Jarrett along with us. This was about the only time of the day that Cierra wasn't miserable, I'm surprised she is even smiling in this pic. Between the missing mommy and car sickness, she had a rough day!

Here are a few other projects I've done in the last few weeks. The first is the first rag quilt I made. I actually made this one for myself because I loved the fabrics! The next is the cute blanket and burp cloth I made for Rachelle & her new little one!

What to post...what to post...

So I'm having trouble finding anything exciting, and post worthy going on in my life right now! I have no fun news, or even bad news to share! I've been working like crazy because the secretary at my office went home for the summer, and two weeks later we had major layoffs at my office and they let my receptionist go. So right now I am playing paralegal, secretary and receptionist while we regroup! UGH...not fun, but I just keep thinking at least I didn't get laid off, at least I still have my job!

For this and many other reasons I am so glad it is almost summer. Summer is always more exciting around here! The sunshine just makes life happier! We have several trips planned already, a couple to our favorite places on earth, Lake Powell and Boulder Mountain, and hopefully many more! I am so excited!

So, for lack of anything else to post, I guess I will tell you about the boring things I've been up to! I guess I will want a journaling of the boring things too :)

I have been slowly learning how to sew. I have now accomplished the baby blankets, aprons, fun fabric flowers to embellish, and I also created a fun little flat iron travel pouch! Its insulated so it doesn't singe your clothes when you throw it in your bag!

I finally got around to hanging up all of my stuff in my bedroom that I have been collecting over the past 4 years...I was waiting until I painted, but I decided that I could hang and then if I decided to paint, I can just re-hang after!


I also got to go see my sweet little nieces in their first ever dance recital. This was a very proud moment for me, as I hope they grow to love dance as much as I do! They are both naturals! I was quite surprised by Saige because whenever you ask her to dance she gets all nervous, I thought for sure she would freak out up on stage in front of all those people, but it was the exact opposite! Cierra on the other hand loves to show you her moves, and definitely shines up on the stage! Here are my two favorite numbers!

Then the next day I got to go to Saige's preschool graduation! I can't believe she is going to be in Kindergarten next year! Time flies so fast. She is such a doll, and is so smart! She is one of the few in her class that passed off their sign language!

A new craft!

So for Christmas my mom gave me a sewing machine, and said we needed to take some classes to learn to sew. Honestly, I took the 1 term long vocational core sewing class that was required in Jr. High, and that was the extent of my sewing experience. My Gma has repeatedly told me that she would teach me, but have just never done it. So I decided that now that I have a sewing machine of my own, I ought to put it to good use!

My mom and I went to a few quilting stores and picked up some patterns and fabric, and I pretty much just jumped right in having no clue exactly what I was doing. But by the end of the night I had made these cute little receiving blankets!It was amazing how fast sewing comes back to you when you just try! These blankets are super easy and I think a good start to my new sewing adventures! Next I'm going to attempt an apron, so we'll see how that goes!
